Illyria Mediterranean

Illyria is a fine-dining Mediterranean restaurant in downtown Harrisonburg. Its menu mixes traditional and contemporary Mediterranean cooking, and its listed signature dishes include filet mignon, shrimp saganaki, crispy duck breast and baked branzino. The restaurant also has a wine list, a cocktail list and an event space for private dinners.

Clementine Cafe

Clementine, at 153 S. Main Street, serves upscale American dinners most nights and weekend brunch. Its listings place the restaurant in the historic Strand Theater building. Live music is part of the regular schedule, and the restaurant has an outdoor patio.

Cuban Burger

Cuban Burger is a downtown spot built around the fritas, a Cuban-style burger, plus Cuban sandwiches. Reviewers mention the garlic-lime aioli on the sandwiches and the fried plantains. It began as a small kitchen and later moved into its own location.

Jimmy Madison’s

Jimmy Madison’s, at 121 S. Main Street, serves homestyle Southern food with a whiskey list. Its listing mentions a rooftop dining area, and reviewers praise the smoked meatloaf and the pimento cheese grits.

Ruby’s Arcade

Benny Sorrentino’s Pizza

Benny Sorrentino’s is at 64 S. Mason Street. The style is what the restaurant calls the Virginia slice, and it sells 14-inch slices and 28-inch pies. A 2016 feature named the buffalo chicken pizza as the most popular, and the menu is short.

International Food

Jako Sushi

Jako Sushi is at 182 Neff Avenue. The menu covers fresh sushi, teriyaki chicken and sushi bowls.

Oriental Cafe

Oriental Cafe is at 563 University Boulevard, Suite 110. It serves both Chinese dishes and sushi. Reviews are mixed, but diners often recommend the hot and sour soup, General Tso’s chicken and the pork dumplings.

Thien-An Pho

Thien-An Pho, also called House of Noodle, is at 227 Burgess Road. Reviewers single out the pho, the roast pork rolls with peanut sauce and the bánh mì.

Taste of India is at 498 University Boulevard. It offers thali combinations with vegetarian options and a lunch buffet, and its menu includes chana masala and mattar paneer.

Taste of Thai is at 917 S. High Street. The menu includes curries, noodle and rice dishes, and chef’s specialties such as roasted duck in sweet chili sauce. The restaurant has a full bar and on-site parking.

Rooftops and Patios

Magnolia’s Tacos & Tequila Bar

Magnolia’s is at 14 E. Water Street. It has a rooftop with views over downtown, a tequila bar and a three-level dining layout. Ask about rooftop seating when you call.

Capital Ale House

Capital Ale House is at 41-A Court Square. It has an outdoor rooftop deck and a large draft list, and it serves brunch on weekends.

The Ridge Room

The Ridge Room is the rooftop tavern at the Hyatt Place Harrisonburg, at 1884 Evelyn Byrd Avenue. It seats about 80 indoors and outdoors and has views of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Heritage Bakery & Cafe

Heritage Bakery & Cafe is at 212 S. Main Street and offers a French-inspired menu that changes daily. Its garden patio is pet-friendly at breakfast and lunch, with dogs tied up outside.

Breweries with Food

Pale Fire Brewing Company

Pale Fire’s Harrisonburg taproom is at 217 S. Liberty Street, Unit 105, in the Ice House. The menu includes Detroit-style pizza, and the taproom has a lending library and weekly live music. You order drinks and food at the counter.

Restless Moons Brewing

Restless Moons is at 120 W. Wolfe Street. The taproom and beer garden seat up to 140 people, and the taproom has three pinball machines. The brewery began as Wolfe Street Brewing and was renamed in 2018.

Food Trucks

Taco El Primo

Taco El Primo is one of the first food trucks in Harrisonburg, according to local coverage from The Breeze at James Madison University. The menu centers on tacos, tortas, burritos and quesadillas.

Lolita’s Delights

Lolita’s Delights is a Mexican food truck known for quesabirria tacos. Reviewers also highlight the steak burrito and the tamales. Check the truck’s social media for its current location and hours.

A Note on Closings

Mashita, the Korean restaurant at 105 N. Liberty Street, closed on February 28, 2026, after a run that started as a food truck. I’m sorry to see it go, but it’s a reminder that the food scene here keeps changing.

Where Will You Eat First?

Downtown Harrisonburg became Virginia’s first culinary district when city council approved it in January 2014, according to Virginia Main Street. That designation is a good reason to explore on foot.
